Evalena “Lana” Gray, 75 of Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth. She was born on November 9, 1941 in Ieager, WV, the daughter of the late Levi H. and Ruby B. Mowery Payne. Lana was a member of the Apostolic Brethren Church in West Portsmouth, and loved to spend her leisure time crocheting and going to yard sales. Lana was retired after 33 years of working for Mercy Hospital and SOMC as a Unit Secretary.
     Lana is survived by her husband Kenneth Jack Gray, whom she married on June 28, 1969 in West Portsmouth; a son, Kenneth James (Christle) Gray of Paris, KY; one daughter, Robin (James “Zig”) Higgins of Portsmouth; two grandchildren Samantha (William) Clark and Ganon Higgins and a sister-in-law, Mary Janet Gray Hall.
     A Celebration of Lana’s Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the New Life Family Worship Center, 1601 Harrisonville Avenue, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662, with Pastor Mike Gifford and Brother Josh Gray officiating and interment to follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg.  The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to the services on Thursday all at the Church.  The family asks that Memorial Donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or SOMC Hospice Center for the great care they provided. The services are under the direction of the Adkins Family Funeral Home in Portsmouth.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.adkinsbrantfuneralhome.com

Lana was such a sweet loving person. She always had a smile and a good story to tell.I'll miss her laugh and cute sayings( I'll be dipped). She was the best of mother in laws .who loved my daughter ( Christle ) like her own. I will miss my friend. With deepest sympathy to the Gray family. May God bless you and keep you in his care. Love to you all...
