Samuel A. Lester, 70 of Portsmouth, passed away at his home on Friday, July 14, 2017. He was born on July 26, 1946 in Cleveland, OH to the late Louis and Rachel Sigman Lester. Sam was also preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Zentarski. He was a 1964 graduate of Cleveland Heights High School, and he attended The Ohio State University. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 23. He was extremely patriotic. Sam retired in 2005 from the U.S. Postal Service after 39 years of service, most recently serving as Post Master in Pedro, OH. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing his guitar, singing, riding his bike, and political discussion. He was also an avid Buckeye football follower.  
     Sam is survived by his loving wife, Theresa Heisler Lester, whom he married 44 years ago on June 29, 1973; daughter, Amy (Adam) Reeder of Wheelersburg, son-in-law Adrian Zentarski, and 7 grandchildren who adored him: Lyla, Adelyn, and Catherine Reeder, J.J. Lester, Laurel, Xander, and Baby Arwyn Zentarski.
     A Celebration of Sam’s Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Adkins Family Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with son-in-law Adam Reeder officiating and graveside military rites by the James Dickey Post 23American Legion at Rosemount Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.  The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Inoshita and his staff and the SOMC Hospice employees for all the love and care they provided.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.adkinsbrantfuneralhome.com
