Dolores Marie Nichols, 79 of Portsmouth, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth. She was born January 8, 1939 in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Roy and Pauline Seibert Prater. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Clark Nichols, whom she married in October of 1958 in Greenboro, Indiana; two sisters, Mary Edminsten and Vivian Juanita Prater. Dolores was a retired cashier from the Kroger’s in Portsmouth after 33 years of service and supported the Scleraderma Foundation.
Dolores is survived by one son, Dudley Clark(Brenda Wolfe) Nichols, III of Portsmouth; a daughter, Julie Michele (Michael) Barber of Reynoldsburg, OH and one step-daughter, Cheryl Ann Howe of Port St. Lucie, Fl; 4 grandchildren, Rebekah Howe, Macey Abrams, Daniel Smith and Declan Nichols; one great grandson, Elijah River Abrams.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7 , 2018 at the Adkins Family Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Chaplin Darren Lilly officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday and one funeral hour prior to the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Sierra’s Haven in Dolores’ honor.
