Floyd “Ray” Mitchell, 71 of Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 2, 2018 at his residence. He was born on February 2, 1947 in Portsmouth, the son of the late Floyd and Eloise Miller Mitchell. Ray was also preceded in death by one brother, Terry Glenn Mitchell. He was a 1967 graduate of Portsmouth High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force, a member of the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion and the D.A.V. Ray was also a member of the Buckeye Wings and the Minford Church of the Nazarene.
Ray was survived by his wife, Connie Pilkington Mitchell, whom he married on July 13, 1991 in Columbus; one daughter, Theresa (Mike) Horton of Minford; son, Heath (Leah) Mitchell of Troy and 3 step sons, David (Karen) Burford of McDermott, Robbie (Miranda) Burford of Lompoc, CA and Douglas (Christina) Burford of Kyle, TX; one sister, Brenda (Grover) Jones of Lucasville; 11 grandchildren, Chase Workman, Sylvia and Sophia Mitchell, Michael, Justin, Christopher, Megan, Chelsie, Jessica, Lauryn Burford and Raven Williams and 9 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Ray’s Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Adkins Family Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Pastor Mark Bales officiating. James Dickey Post 23 American Legion will provide the graveside military rites following the service at Greenlawn Cemetery.
